UIGEA 270 Deadline Up: US Online Poker Players Out of Luck?

(PRWEB) July 10, 2007 -- What has almost since been forgotten (the actual date of the UIGEA deadline) has finally come and well?gone? The date of July 10th was the end of the 270 days given for regulations to be devised for banks to halt all banking with offshore gambling sites according to the US Poker (http://www.compatiblepoker.com/usa.php) tracking page at www.compatiblepoker.com/usa.php

Compatiblepoker.com/usa.php posted today an email correspondance with a US Treasury contact. The email from Steve Laughton states that the regulations will not be published today but will hopefully be published sometime in July.

The date which was set is just another day on the calendar many followers report. According to some who follow US legislation more closely, there are some laws that were passed similar to the UIGEA which are still pending regulations 10+ years later.

There has been a large backlash with the signing of the UIGEA. In review Barney Frank issued a Bill to regulate online poker, IMEGA reported they were filing a suit for an injunction against the UIGEA and the Pokerplayersalliance.org (http://www.pokerplayersalliance.org) gathered almost 600,000 US citizens in support of legalizing online poker. On the financial ewallet side, Stephen Lawrence of Neteller cooperated with the US DOJ and will forfeit $100 million and be sentenced in October.

Some feel the US government bit off more than they could chew while others feel the UIGEA is un-Constitutional such as a Seattle based lawyer, Lee Russo who claimed to be suing the state over the UIGEA gambling ban this week.

All this goes on as the Main Event of the World Series of Poker kicks off. Because of the UIGEA there were only 5200 entrants compared to last years 8773. This is just one of many side affects of the UIGEA.

But for now many US online poker players continue to chug along at the virtual card rooms. Compatiblepoker continues its 9+ month hourly quest of US poker (http://www.compatiblepoker.com/usa.php) and online gaming updates at www.compatiblepoker.com/usa.php where all news and tracking regarding possible regulations will be published in the blog area towards the bottom.
